A Maine man now sits in the Washington County jail after leading police on a chase that ended just after dawn.

According to Machias News, 34 year old Chad Sands was captured early this morning in the town of Columbia, Maine.

The incident started just after 4 PM on Wednesday afternoon when an Addison woman called law enforcement to report a domestic dispute.  Washington County Sheriff's deputies arrived and, after investigating, placed Chad Sands under arrest.  He was handcuffed and placed in a cruiser.  When a deputy was outside the cruiser, Sands jumped behind the wheel and drove off.  The deputy was able to open the door and grab Sands, but let go to avoid being dragged away.

After striking his residence with the cruiser, Sands reportedly drove off.  A short distance down the road, Sands abandoned the cruiser and fled into the woods.

Sheriff deputies, assisted by the Maine State Police, began a search for Chad Sands.  The search was paused at about midnight, but was resumed just before dawn.  Shortly after the search was resumed, Sands was located near the Pleasant River Fish and Game Club. Sands was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Machias hospital to be examined after exposure to the elements.

Sands was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a prohibited person Class B, Escape Class B, and Eluding Class C.  Sands is being held at the Washington County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.

Sands is expected to be arraigned on  Friday, October 29th.
