
Deadly Gorham, Maine Crash: Minivan Ends Up Submerged in Pond
One person has died and another was seriously injured following a crash in Gorham that caused a minivan to end up fully submerged in a pond.
According to WGME 13, the two-vehicle accident occurred Monday around 5 p.m. near 70 Brackett Road. According to police, a Dodge Grand Caravan flipped over during the crash and landed upside down in a nearby pond.
The driver of the minivan was able to escape on their own, but two passengers were trapped inside. WGME reported that Gorham Fire Department personnel responded quickly, sending divers into the pond to rescue the passengers.
Both were pulled from the water and transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries. Tragically, one of the passengers, identified as Joyce Provencher, later succumbed to her injuries, the news station said.
The other vehicle involved, a Honda CRV, carried a driver and one passenger. Both were taken to Maine Medical Center as well but sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash. Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Gorham Police Officer Jarrett Oceguera at (207) 222-1660 ext. 1.
This incident highlights the dangers of local roadways and the critical work of first responders in emergencies. The Gorham community is mourning the loss of Joyce Provencher while authorities continue to gather information about how the crash occurred.
