Dating is unlike anything it ever was. Today's "dating scene" is full of peach emojis', selfies, and abbreviated texts. I just found out that Facebook now has a dating app and we need to talk about this immediately!

If you're a single Mainer that is "today-years-old" when learning about Facebook Dating, I will clue you in.

I was speaking to a friend recently and she told me about a new "heart icon" that popped up on her Facebook page.

This person is single and I am not sure if this dating icon popped up specifically because Facebook knows she is single or not. That's creepy if it's the case. What she saw was a "Facebook Dating" option.

It shows up as a heart icon at the bottom of your Facebook page on your phone or laptop. If you click on the heart, it takes you to another page. In order to join Facebook Dating you'll need to understand that this is an entirely separate Facebook profile page, just for dating.

According to a Bustle article,

Your dating profile isn't limited to who your Friends are on the site. Rather, your "suggested" profiles (aka, people that Facebook thinks you might want to reach out to) will be based off of your interests, preferences, and other things you do on Facebook.

This also gives you the ability to search for potential suitors within your location or even beyond. This option launched in September of 2019, according to Wikipedia, which is surprising because many of us are just learning of this option.

To build a dating app within one of the most popular social media sites, is genius. If this in fact, easy to navigate and does give you correct matches, it could be well worth a try.

According to Facebook,

If you’re interested in using Facebook Dating to meet new people, you can create a Dating profile. In Dating you can send likes and messages to people you’re interested in. Once someone likes you back, you’ll match and can start chatting in Dating.
Note that all people on Dating must follow our Community Standards. Dating profiles and activity can't be promotional in nature or contain commercial offers.

If you do like someone's page and are interested in chatting with them, you can send them a like. Also, Facebook Dating is welcome to all genders and sexual preference.

However Facebook does state,

Facebook Dating isn't available to everyone.

I found out that this is because of two things,

If you can't find the Facebook Dating option anywhere on your screen, it's likely due to one of these two reasons: either you aren't using the Facebook app, or you're under 18.

I spoke to another Maine friend and she told me that this is so much better than any other separate app.

So if you are a single Mainer, who already has a Facebook Page, and is interested in finding love, this could work for you!
