Maine Hobby Lobby Workers See Wage Boost
Financial strain is a real struggle for Maine people and because of that employees at one of my favorite shopping spots are going to see a little more money in their paychecks.
I was at Hobby Lobby last night shopping for birthday party supplies because my little one will be turning 8 and in between the sobs and realization that my baby is no longer a baby, I couldn't help but notice how different this store is from other retailers. The prices are incredible and the offerings are unique, but the employees are always smiling.
This seems to because they are well-taken care of. And right now, when the economy is a bit hard for so many of us, Hobby Lobby is changing the pay, in a good way.
Hobby Lobby wants to support their workforce so it has been announced, according to a press release from the business, that they are increasing minimum wage to $19.25 per hour. This began earlier this month, on October 1.
CEO David Green said in the release,
"Inflation has negatively impacted nearly all businesses, individuals, and families over the past several years. We have worked hard to hold our prices down, and are thankful for our continued success as a company. As we head into the joyous holiday season, we are thrilled to share that success with thousands of our employees."
This move is part of the company's effort to increase the morale and well-being of its employees. They've raised minimum wages before too back in 2009 and 2017, as per the article.
They were even the first major retail change to raise wages above the national average.
The minimum wage in Maine is $14.15 per hour for 2024, and it will increase to $14.65 per hour in 2025.
So if you are an employee of one of the Hobby Lobbys in Maine (Auburn, Augusta, Bangor and Waterville), you'll be happy to see more money for your hard work!
