I'm going to start this by saying that this is NOT political. I'm a conservative man and I would bet that 40% of the people I've removed have shared my political affiliation. With that being said, it feels good to click the 'unfriend' button.

Why am I rapidly filtering through the friends list on my personal Facebook page? For two reasons mostly. The first is positivity. There are so many people on social media these days that just aim to sow division and discontent and, while that's completely their right to do so, I just don't want to see it anymore. Regardless of your political leanings, this last year of campaigns and political attack ads has left me, and millions of others I'd imagine, feeling a little blah. I'm just over it.

The second, and honestly less important reason, is interaction. With nearly 5,000 friends on my page there are literally hundreds and hundreds of people that I never interact with and who never interact with me. They are probably great people but, if we're not interacting with each other's content, why bother being linked up as friends?

Let me end by saying this- it wasn't too long ago that I was someone who used my page to promote my political beliefs and would even engage in arguments with those who weren't like-minded. I decided to stop many years ago after realizing that a Facebook argument wasn't going to change someone's political mind. I mean, when is the last time you saw a civil back-and-forth political discussion on the News Center Maine page? Never. It's just name-calling and vitriol and if I have to read the words 'Trumpster or Libtard' again, I may pull my nonexistent hair out.

I just want to use Facebook to make people laugh while simultaneously posting pictures of my kids so I can delete them from my phone. Literally, that's it. Again, people should use their pages for whatever they want. If all you want to do is promote a political agenda on your page, then go for it! I support you! I just don't want to see it in my feed everyday. I need more positivity. My job is literally to entertain people every morning and be funny/happy/charismatic... and it's become much harder to do while being surrounded by Facebook negativity.

The End.
