Summer's in full swing, and people throughout New England are filling their calendars with fun seasonal activities that are sure to create lasting memories.

If you're anything like this writer, you're devoted to spending as much time as possible outside and soaking up the sunlight over the next couple of months. And there's no better way to appreciate Mother Nature's beauty than by going to a lavender festival.

But wait, what is a lavender festival? We're glad you asked. Let's head over to Lavender Hill Farm in Berwick, Maine, to learn more.

This small family farm at 11 Brooks Lane specializes in four things: Christmas trees, sheep, massages (you read that right), and lavender. This year, they're hosting their first-ever Lavender Festival on Saturday, July 20, from 10am to 6pm.

This special summer event will showcase the local creative community and feature live music, picnicking, pulled pork (is your stomach growling yet?), craft vendors, games, farm tours, and more, according to the farm's website.

Then of course, there's the star of the show: 200+ lavender plants, all filling the air with the peaceful and relaxing aroma the flower is famous for.

As you probably know, lavender is a popular scent when it comes to aromatherapy treatments. According to Mount Sinai, it is used as a helpful remedy for "headaches, nervous disorders, and exhaustion," as well as skin ailments, joint pain, and muscle pain. Yours truly also recommends the lavender essential oil from doTERRA.

Anyway, not only can you and your family enjoy a memorable summer day at Lavender Hill Farm, but your bodies will benefit from the healing properties of the plants around you.

The Lavender Festival at Lavender Hill Farm will take place rain or shine on Saturday, July 20, from 10am-6pm. To learn more and purchase tickets, click here.
