A man is dead after the Kenworth tractor-trailer he was driving veered off a Maine road and into an icy pond early on Thursday morning.

According to an article from the Kennebec Journal, Pierre Alexander Drolet, 35 of Quebec, was driving his loaded 1994 Kenworth log truck on route 201 through The Forks at about 4am when he veered off the roadway and into the water.

First responders were dispatched to the area of Martin Pond which is near the Northern Outdoors resort on 201.

When crews arrived on the scene they found that the truck was partially flipped over and submerged in the pond with logs everywhere from the crash. Unfortunately, the driver did not survive the incident.

Police tell the Kennebec Journal that they believe the crash was a result of the winter storm that was moving through the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning, though the crash remains under investigation.

The KJ says that the particular area where Drolet was travelling before he crashed had received anywhere from 8-10 inches of snow prior to the crash happening on Thursday morning.

Somerset County Sheriff's officials told the newspaper that parts of route 201 was closed 'intermittently' during the day on Thursday as crews worked the scene.

Eventually a special tow truck from the city of Bangor was called in to help pull the massive rig out of the frozen pond. In addition, Maine State Police officials were on the scene and were helping with the clearing of debris from the roadway.

After the truck was pulled from the water, crews were not able to locate Drolet's body in the cab. At that time, Maine State Police divers were sent into the pond to search from the driver's remains, though at this time, that search was still unsuccessful.

This is a developing story and we will continue to keep the story updated as more information becomes available to us in the coming days from the Somerset County Sheriff's Office.
