Police officers in Maine and all around the country put their lives and their safety on the line every single day to serve and protect the communities that they live and work in.

According to WABI TV 5, a Maine police officer was injured on Tuesday morning during a welfare check at a Walmart.

Channel 5 reports that that the incident happened at the Brewer, Maine Walmart at about 8:30 Tuesday morning.

The news station says that Brewer Police officers were called to the Walmart on Wilson Street to assist in finding a person who was reportedly in crisis. When police arrived, there was a physical altercation with the individual.

Jason Moffitt, Brewer Public Safety director, told WABI TV 5 in part,

”During the scuffle get him detained and, you know trying to isolate this person, one of the PD officers was injured. So he has a head injury and and possible whiplash and is being evaluated for that right now".

WABI is also reporting that the man that was involved in the altercation with police has been taken to a facility for a medical evaluation.

Currently there is no word on the type or severity of the injuries sustained by the Brewer Police officer. We will continue to keep this story updated as more information regarding the altercation, and the condition of all those involved, becomes available to us.
