Some Maine Schools Abruptly Closed Monday Morning Following ‘Credible Threat’
Following reports of what's being considered a credible threat, an entire Maine school district has opted to cancel classes for the day on Monday, September 9, 2024.
According to an article published by the Bangor Daily News, officials with Maine School Administrative District 44 in Western Maine made the call early Monday morning.
The BDN reported that MSAD 44, which serves Bethel, Greenwood, Newry, Woodstock and Gilead, has canceled all classes for the day. Representatives from the district apologized for the short notice of the closure.
The Bangor Daily News indicated that the "credible threat" was made towards Telstar High School in Bethel, Maine. At this time it is not known who made the threat or what the threat message contained.
It is also currently not known if the threat originated from in-state or out-of-state or if the threat was made by a student or someone else. We're expected to learn more about the threat as the day goes on.
Additionally, there was no information available on if the school district was planning to reopen to students as normal on Tuesday, though again we expect more information on that later in the day.
As far as the missed day of school, the Bangor Daily News reported that this will count as the district's first "snow day" of this school year.
We will continue to follow this story closely and provide updates as more information is provided to us throughout the course of the day.
