Maine is home to the most beautiful coastline, the prettiest mountain ranges and the absolute best teachers the world has to offer.

And that has never been more evident than it is right now.

Over the years we have heard countless stories of Maine teachers being absolute rock stars for their students, including saving their lives. And now, we have another amazing story to pass along.

According to WABI TV 5, the incident we're talking about happened back in September 2022 at Lewiston, Maine's ACADIA Academy. ACADIA is a local charter school where, Michelle Michaud, a teacher, works.

Back in September 2022, the students were eating lunch when a first-grader began choking on a chicken nugget, according to the news station. The boy tried to spit the food out, WABI reported, but he ended up throwing up, further lodging the nugget in his airway. The boy was now completely unable to breathe and his skin was changing color.

That's when the hero, Michelle Michaud, stepped in to help.

WABI reported that Michaud immediately began the Heimlich maneuver and was able to clear the student's airway.

WABI goes on to say that Michaud has been working for ACADIA Academy for the last five years as a Behavioral Health Professional, and following the life-saving measures, Michelle was honored with a Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action.

We are so proud of Michelle and are so thankful to have her in our community.

Congratulations on your outstanding award and thank you (and all teachers!) for all you do!
