More Details About Today’s Storm (UPDATED: 2 PM – Jan 4, 2018)

The National Weather Service has extended blizzard warnings for Central Maine until 4 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5.

Here is the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight

Snow, mainly before midnight. Widespread blowing snow, mainly before 7pm. Low around 11. Wind chill values as low as -4. Windy, with a northwest wind 25 to 30 mph decreasing to 20 to 25 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for much of the coast and central Maine.  Currently, they are saying most areas could see 10"-14" of snow and winds with gusts up to 45 MPH.  This means dangerous travel conditions caused by blowing snow.  Additionally, the high winds could down trees and power lines.  Affected areas could see these conditions as early as late Thursday morning.

It is suggested you avoid travel if at all possible.  If you do not to travel, make sure you have a winter survival kit in your vehicle.  If you become stranded, stay with your vehicle.

Areas not in the blizzard zone will be under a winter storm watch.

According to WCSH 6 and meteorologist Keith Carson, we could get slammed with (depending on where you are) 6' to 16'.

On top of that, it will be windy across the entire state, but the coast will have the highest winds.  Especially near Rockland and Bar Harbor.

Be safe and plan accordingly!  In other words, hit the store on the way home tomorrow night.
