For anyone in your life who has Medicare, there is some news, there will be getting new Medicare card!

The new cards will be going out between now and April 2019.

Why you ask?

They are doing this so the number on the Medicare card is NOT your social security number.  It is being changed to a random looking set of letters and numbers that only mean something when it used to reference your information in a computer that has access to Medicare info!

It is to help protect your personal information. All the updates are at Medicare.gov.

You might want to make sure your family member has up-to-date info in the system.  That can be done at ssa.gov/myaccount or 1-800-772-1213.

So of course this comes with the potential for scams. Scammers pry on confusion and people’s good and trusting nature. They do things like call and ask for you to confirm you current number or something along those line.  Just remember there is no charge for your new card and Medicare will never call you for your information. They already have it!

If you receive any such calls or suspicious solicitations, hang up and call the Senior Medicare Patrol at 1-855-613-7080.

Now you know!
