Those Aren’t Clouds in the Sky Over Maine. It’s Actually Smoke From a Huge Fire
It's something that, especially over the last several years, we've noticed happening more often in the skies of Maine.
That, of course, is seeing smoke in the form of haze in the daytime sky.
According to the National Wildland Fire Situation Report in Canada, there are currently 118 uncontrolled fires raging in the country. In addition, Canadian officials report that there are another 117 controlled fires currently still burning.
The largest wildfire currently burning in Canada is HCX001, also called the Semo Wildfire Complex. Canadian officials say that this is the largest of the wildfires and is approximately 16 km northeast of Jon D’or Prairie, 19 km north of Fox Lake and 30 km northeast of Garden River. The wildfire is estimated to be a whopping 49,879 hectares in size.
What this means for New England, particularly Maine, is that when the weather conditions are just right, all of that smoke from those massive fires makes its way east and into the Pine Tree State.
What this means for you is that even though when you look at the weather app on your phone today and it shows all clear skies and highs around 82, you will likely still see some cloudy 'haze' in the skies this afternoon as the wildfire smoke blow across Maine.
Hopefully, in the coming weeks, Canadian officials can get more of the uncontrolled fires under control to not only mitigate the smoke in the sky but also to help save some of the land that is currently on fire in Canada.
