Officials Looking For Man In Connection With Benton Arson
State Fire Marshals are asking the public for help in identifying a man believed involved in setting fire to a self-storage facility in Benton Monday night.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, there was little damage to R&D Self Storage on the Neck Road because a passerby who saw the flames in the back of the building stopped and partially put the fire out before firefighters arrived. There was no damage to any of the storage locker contents, McCausland said.
Fire investigators say a surveillance camera captured images of the man who was wearing a Dale Earnhardt jacket and a ski mask, McCausland said. Investigators say a flammable liquid was used to start the fire and the man may have suffered minor burns as a result.
Officials released a screen capture of the suspect.
The fire was reported about 10 p.m. and the Fairfield Fire department responded. Anyone with information on the fire or the suspect, should call State Police in Augusta at 624-7076, according to McCausland.
