According to WGME, on Wednesday, a large part of the state was affected by a temporary outage in the 9-1-1 emergency dispatch system.

The outage affected 12 of the State of Maine's public safety service organizations.

The outage was reportedly caused by an internal power outage at two of the state's data centers.  During the outage, anyone who called 9-1-1 received no answer.

Fortunately, the outage happened early in morning, outside of peak call times. The outage happened at 2 AM and, according to the article, it was fixed by 3:30 AM.

That being said, there were nearly 70 calls that went unanswered.  However, it appears that most of those were from the same number and from police and fire departments who were trying to figure out what was going on.  The Maine PUC says that, once the outage was resolved, every one of those calls were returned.  A spokesperson for the organization also said that there were no life threatening situations that were not resolved during the crisis.

Some of the areas affected by the outage included Androscoggin County, Franklin County, Oxford County, Piscataquis County and Somerset County, and departments of public safety in Houlton, Augusta, Bangor, Penobscot County, Hancock County, and Washington County.
