UPDATE @ 11:30 AM on January 5th, 2023

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at about 8:05 AM.  The press release explains that a box truck operated by 22 year old Manuel Depina-Gonolves, of Boston, was traveling southbound when he crashed into a fully loaded cement truck.

Depina-Gonolves was stuck in his truck and had to be extracted,  While his injuries were severe, they were not life threatening.

59 year old Peter Macdonald, of South Berwick, the driver of the cement truck, was not injured in the crash

The press release goes on to say:

Preliminary investigation indicates speed and following to close were factors in the crash. The lane has been re-opened to traffic. The Maine State Police were assisted on scene by the Kittery Fire Department and the Maine Turnpike Authority Maintenance crews.

According to a report on WGME's website, two tractor trailers have collided near Kittery this morning.

The report seems to indicate that the crash happened on the southbound side of the highway.

One of the drivers was trapped inside their truck and needed to be extracted.  According to Maine State Police troopers, the injuries were non-life threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
