A West Bath woman has been arrested following an investigation into a barn fire earlier this month that destroyed a structure used to house goats.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, 38-year-old Grace Burnham of West Bath was arrested Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m. at her home. The arrest stems from a fire that occurred at the same residence on March 14.

Authorities say the fire destroyed a small barn on the property that was being used to house goats. Fortunately, officials confirmed that no animals were injured during the incident.

Following her arrest, Burnham was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail. She is facing multiple charges, including arson, failure to report or control a dangerous fire, and animal cruelty.

Officials say the investigation into the fire was conducted by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department and the West Bath Animal Control Officer also assisted in the investigation.

Authorities have not released additional details about what may have led to the fire or the circumstances surrounding the charges. The investigation remains ongoing.

The case highlights the seriousness of fires involving agricultural structures and animals, even when no injuries are reported. Officials continue to remind residents to report fires immediately and take proper precautions to prevent dangerous situations.
