We've all seen the commercials from the big store chains talking about being open on Thanksgiving. Well in Maine, for the most part, they are not allowed to be open.

Maine's law does have a number of exemptions. For example, restaurants can be open. Also gas stations, garages and service stations, pharmacies and movie theaters, can as well. If the store is over 5,000 square feet, it can't be open. The exception is L.L.Bean. They fall under an exemption for stores that are "establishments primarily selling boats, boating equipment, sporting equipment, souvenirs and novelties."
