
Who Else Remembers This Popular Pecks Department Store in Lewiston, Maine?
Back in the "hayday", Pecks Department Store, named after Bradford Peck, once located at 184 Main Street in Lewiston was Maine’s first and largest department store.
Everyone loved it and everyone shopped there. It was so grand and exciting because this spot was once hailed as “The Great Department Store.”
Lets take a walk down memory lane..
Peck’s was Maine’s first, largest and finest department store.
They became a store all the way back in 1800 and according to Maine Memory, were located at the "Music Hall block on Lisbon Street, moved six years later to the Sands Block, and in 1899 to Main Street at Lisbon Street"
It was a bustling store where so many generations shopped. They would find their beautiful China, decor, and back to school clothes for the kids.
Today, the building is home to the L.L.Bean call center. Many residents still talk about and remember how grand this place was back in the day.

The iconic "Great Department Store." The place spanned 5 floors and it was legendary with it’s huge window displays and magical Christmas decorations. To the kiddos, this place was where Santa Clause came to life.
As the time passed, the classic charm began to modernize a bit. They faced some competition from the shopping malls that were emerging in the early 1980s.

Understandably, things started to become a bit hard to keep up "with the Joneses."
