Randi Clatchey

Senior Veterans Service Representative

Waterville

I am nominating Randi Clatchey not for what she does at her place of employment, but what she does in her personal time. Randi lost her son, Josh Peck, when he was 17. He died of sudden cardiac arrest during a pep rally at his school.

Randi's son may have had a chance at life if an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) was available to him that day. Since then, Randi has advocated for schools in the area to obtain AEDs so they are available in case of emergency. She has provided education to the community through Facebook and in-person conversations about the risks of cardiac arrest in teenagers. She has raised funds and worked with area businesses to sponsor and pay for AEDs for area schools and any place where kids congregate. Randi has been able to receive AEDs through generous donations for Lawrence Jr. High and the Harold Alfond Youth Center in Waterville. Just recently, Randi began a non-profit organization called the "Josh Peck Foundation" in an effort to continue to raise awareness, promote training and to raise funds to purchase AEDs for more schools and centers for children. Randi is also working with Farrin's Country Auctions to raise funds for the Josh Peck Foundation.

I nominate Randi because after such a huge loss, she has risen and come back to advocate for other teenagers, other parents, so hopefully even one child will be saved. She has selflessly worked many hours to spread the awareness and to keep children safe. She does all this while working for our Veterans and raising a teenage daughter.

The Josh Peck Foundation can be found on Facebook. A website is under construction at joshpeckfoundation.com.
