Here’s How I Accidentally Destroyed My Once-in-a-Lifetime Kenney Award
Is anyone surprised that this this happened to me? No, me either.
A couple of weeks ago during the annual Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Kenney Awards at the Augusta Civic Center, I was up for the Cynergy Professional Award with two other incredible community members, Heather Allen and Michael Hall.
It was an absolute honor to be nominated alongside these two and an absolute surprise when I learned that I had won. This is my favorite award I have ever received, and now it's gone.
In addition to receiving some amazing letters from our US Representatives and Senators, I was also gifted with a gorgeous glass trophy with the Cynergy Professional Award on it. Did I mention it's glass? Yeah, I think I did.
Since the Kenneys, I've had both my congressional sentiments and my trophies at home, but I knew I wanted to move the trophy to my office here at the radio station. So, this morning I made sure I had it in my possession as I was getting ready to leave the house. Mind you this is at 4:30 in the morning.
I had the dog on his leash (yes, he comes to work with me), a bunch of tax paperwork (yes, I do my taxes at work) and my Kenney Award. As I got down to the landing at the bottom of the stairs by the garage, I stopped to bend down and put my shoes on. As I did that, I put the Kenney in the pocket of my sweatshirt- shouldn't have done that.
As I was popping on my right shoe, the Kenney award came out and fell to the floor, shattering into a couple big pieced and dozens of much smaller ones.
Obviously this was a terrible way to start my day. I'm devastated that I broke my award and sad that I even have to tell everyone about this. To the Chamber, I'm so sorry you went through all the trouble to have these gorgeous awards made and that I broke the absolute hell out of it. However, no one appears to be surprised that this happened to me. I break everything.
