The last time I remember a big April snowstorm was on April Fools' Day in 2011. And the only reason I remember that is because I was out plowing roads for the town of Windsor and was having horrible back pain. Turns out it was kidney stones.

But enough about my unfortunate medical history, let's just dive into the proverbial meat and potatoes of this week's long-duration storm.

Since winter didn't want to winter when winter was supposed to, it turns out that it's going to winter this spring. And it's gonna winter wicked-friggin-hard. Sorry for saying friggin.

Anyway, this giant storm will move into the region mid-morning on Wednesday and won't be 'out of dodge' until middle of the day on Friday. This means that commuting around is going to be a practical nightmare for a few days this week.

With Central Maine expected to get anywhere between a foot or 2 of snow, it's going to be quite the storm. Couple that with the mild temperatures (for a snowstorm) and you can bet that this is going to be a dangerous storm.

Not just dangerous because of road conditions, but dangerous because the snow is going to be super-heavy. People who need to shovel will want to be very careful not to over-exert themselves and to take frequent breaks.

In addition to the heavy snow, wind and power outages are also likely to become a factor over the coming days as well.

According to WGME 13, this storm will move into the area on Wednesday morning as a mixed bag of annoying precipitation, but by Thursday morning it will be all snow spread out across the entire state.

The storm will eventually taper off throughout the day on Friday, leaving behind mountains of heavy wet snow for Mainers all across the state to clean. The following Wednesday is calling for sun and 65.

Welcome to Maine.
