There's no question that this last year has been incredibly difficult on everyone. From the regular nine to fiver, to the Maine high school student and everyone in between.

One of the groups we haven't spent a ton of time talking about in relation to the pandemic is Maine's homeless population. With fewer things happening, incuding fundraisers and food drives, Maine's homeless have suffered the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, too. And this is a population that was already struggling prior to last March.

Well, according to WABI TV 5, one Maine restaurant and pub is going out of their way to make sure the homeless population in their area is taken care of and fed a proper meal on St. Patrick's Day. Geaghan's Pub in Bangor recently made the decision to close down the restaurant for the typically busy Irish holiday as they say there is no way they can safely throw a party given the state's current COVID guidelines. However, instead of just shutting down and taking the day off, they're firing up the kitchen and giving back.

Geaghan's Pub has announced that they will be cooking traditional Irish meals for the residents at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, one of the busiest shelters in all of Maine. Staff at the pub are planning to make their traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner for the people at the shelter.

In a quote to WABI from Geaghan's co-owner, Andrew Geaghan,

“It’s going to be such a wonderful time just, just, in the future, but we’re just not there yet. For us, this is something that we can do that honors the foundation of what that day is for us as a family and as a business and really do some good.”

Here are some tips for self-care during the pandemic:
