The Maine Sportsman Magazine's second annual Miss Maine Sportsman competition was held this past weekend at the Augusta Civic Center and had 12 contestants. They canvased the entire show, inside and outside, encouraging people to vote for them. Each person who attended the show got a chance to vote for their favorite.

The ladies came from all over the state and, in order to give everyone an equal chance, there was a booth where you could see pictures of each lady and read their bios. Each has a very impressive record of being a true, Maine, outdoors person. Hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting...most did more than one of those things and some did all, and more!

Last year's winner, Brit Humphrey, was there to pass the proverbial baton.

The new Miss Maine Sportsman, Morgan Whitten, of Winter Harbor, is a huntress and also loves to fish. Not to mention skeet shooting, hiking, kayaking, boating and, well, just about anything that happens outside! You won't find this lady spending weekends sitting down and watching tv or playing video games!

Morgan's favorite type of hunting is for partridge. She likes that it's more relaxed and fun. Still, she love to hunt bear, deer, turkey and, if she gets a permit, moose!

When it comes to catching fish, ice fishing is her favorite, although she enjoys the salt water type, too. Like Halibut, Cod, Mackerel and Tuna.

Morgan plans to become a Maine Guide. Recently, she finished college with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

One of her plans is to get involved with kids, getting them outside away from television, computers and games, to enjoy the Maine outdoors. That speaks volumes of this great Maine woman and our 2nd Miss Maine Sportsman, Morgan Whitten!
