NH Hiker Rescued Thanks To Facebook Post
A Hiker from Loudon, New Hampshire is safe thanks to the power of the internet.
According to WMTW, on Friday, 25 year old Robby Cummings set out to see a sunrise from Franconia Ridge. As he neared the top of Mount Lafayette, the weather changed. He tried to work his way back down, but had to stop due to white-out conditions.
After trying, and failing, to reach 911, he turned to Facebook. He posted, “Hike the 4,000 Footers of NH. Send help stuck by a cairn on old bridle in alpine between hut and lafayette summit - wind took map and compass, white out conditions.”
His friends saw the message and alerted New Hampshire Fish and Game wardens. Cummings weathered the storm in a cave while he waited for rescue.
