An Open Letter to Maine’s Gold Star Families
Dear Gold Star Families of Maine,
As Memorial Day is approaching, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to each and every one of you. Many of us use this weekend as the "unofficial start" to summer. We throw parties, BBQs and head up to camp, sometimes forgetting what this weekend truly represents.
This day holds profound significance. We are remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. And for you, this day is personal because it's a reminder of the loss you have endured.
Your family member answered the call to serve. They protected us and showed bravery. Their sacrifice protected our liberty. Not only for us, but for our babies and children. We owe your family members a debt of gratitude that sadly can never be fully repaid.
As Gold Star families, you have suffered the loss of a family member who served and died for our country in active duty.
You have held the weight of their absence with incredible strength that I cannot begin to imagine. Having to live on after losing a part of you takes courage. You inspire me.
I want you to know that the memory of your loved one lives on through your memories and the continued dedication of their brothers and sisters in active service. Please know that you are not alone in your grief.
On this Memorial Day Weekend, we stand beside you, holding your hand as we all pay tribute to your fallen hero.
Thank you for your sacrifice, and for the courage you display every day living on without them. Our nations history is built on your hero, and we honor both their sacrifice and yours.
I know that in the state of Maine, we hold our Gold Star families in the highest regard.
Thank you for your sacrifice, and for the courage you display every single day.
With profound respect and heartfelt condolences,
Lizzy Snyder
