Maine Veterans’ Homes plan to build a new 138 bed nursing home near Maine General Medical Center.

It would be a multi-building facility replacing the current facility on Cony Road in Augusta. The proposed facility would cost $76.8 million with 138 beds for veterans.

The complex would sit on 44 acres with several residential style buildings with 10 to 12 units rather than the traditional one building complex. The reason for the smaller house style facility is because studies show clinical outcomes for residents and patients are better than the current style of buildings.

The new facility would have 138 beds, 12 fewer than the current Cony Road facility, which was opened in 1983.
