March 24, 2013 I want to take a moment tell a story about a two and a half year old girl, Aubrey Renee Coburn. She is undergoing quite an ordeal. Aubrey was born on August 9, 2010 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. At just three days of age she had her first open heart surgery. Then just a few short months later, another heart surgery. Now, the sweet girl needs a third this coming spring.
March 24, 2013 I'm not sure when this all started, but I found a really cool nook of retailing in Lewiston-Auburn. It's an indoor flea market with dozens and dozens of booths, friendly people and way cool merchandise.
March 22, 2013 Hey, do you know what today is? It’s ‘National Goof Off Day.' I sadly wasn’t able to do much goofing off today but still it was a good day. What are you doing if anything to celebrate ‘National Goof Off Day?’
March 22, 2013 The kids were home from school today and neither Lynn nor I wanted to cook so we decided to go out. In the neighborhood there is a seafood diner; Mac’s Downeast Seafood and up to this point hadn’t gone. Granted we just moved nine months ago but still had never been in.
March 21, 2013 At about 3 pm this afternoon, March 21, a fire broke out at 146 Northern Avenue Augusta. It was a four unit apartment complex. One resident was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The building, built in 1928, is a loss.
March 21, 2013 The U.S. Postal Service announced a few weeks ago that they were cancelling their Saturday delivery service. Apparently, the USPS doesn’t have the authority to make that decision. This doesn't mean Saturday mail delivery will continue past the phase-out date but it does mean that the decision to cut Saturday delivery could be reversed.
March 21, 2013 This is a follow up from a previous post. I moved from Martin’s Point in Portland to Poland Family Practice for a couple of reasons but primarily because of convenience. There are other personal reasons too but nothing against Martin’s Point.
March 20, 2013 Tonight it was the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce's After Hours social get together. A time where people in local business hangout and talk, network, eat and maybe win a door prize. Every month 92 Moose emcees and mingles with chamber members of both the Mid-Maine Chamber and Kennebec Valley Chamber. This month it was held at The Brown House Properties and Appliances on Francis Street in Waterville.
March 20, 2013 Yes it’s an errand but it’s kind of an exciting one in a small way. I’m referring to the monthly trip (give or take) to the redemption center. When I was young and living on my own, taking back bottles to the redemption center meant a pack of cigarettes or maybe a six of beer or possibly even both. “Returnables” were also good for a few gallons of gas back in the day.
March 19, 2013 Hopefully we are now having the last measurable snowstorm of the 2012-2013 winter season. As annoying as it is to shovel and how inconvenient this weather is, it could be a lot worse. I think after this season we need to thank the plow drivers a little for keeping the roads clear. Snow plow drivers both contracted and those who work for the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.)
