Yesterday I did something that I never thought I would be able to do. If you don't know what Crossfit is, as defined by CEO Greg Glassman, it is, "constantly varied, high-intensity functional movement.” He goes onto say,

"Moving beyond physics, CrossFit has also become a “social phenomenon” with a tightly knit community. A CrossFit gym is unlike any other gym."

Greg Glassman, CEO

I agree, this workout has hit the world like a dry forest on fire. People love this high intensity workout, that pushes you to your limit.

Before I started on-air, I was running 3-5 days a week and because of the schedule and location of my new career, I had to pause my previous gym membership.

The Shop at Crossfit opened just a few months ago and it is right next door to the Moose Studios in the Augusta Plaza. I have been thinking for a while that I wanted to peak in and see what it's all about.

So I reached out and set up a visit. The owners are the absolute best people ever! Beth, who is a warrior of a woman was an inspiration simply by being herself without anything having to do with the work out. She is strong, confident, and kind and that is exactly what you want in a trainer or workout guide.

Also, her daughter Brooke, who is 9, made the sweetest welcome sign when I walked in for my meeting with them.

It is already wonderful when you feel comfortably entering a situation where you feel a bit afraid. Beth calmed me immediately, I registered and we set up my workout.

The night before my workout, I of course looked up every video ever made of CrossFit and got terrified. From the weights, to the ball things, to the rope things, and all of the other things that I thought could kill you, made me more fearful than before.

I decided to go after the morning show in case I got so winded before the show that I wouldn't be able to talk for all of you.

I am now going to explain to you what we did and try not to get too tired because I had no idea I could do this, like, ever.

We started with the rowing machine and did 800 meters, then 100 jump ropes, then I biked for 20 calories and repeated the jump ropes and rowing.

I thought I was good at jump rope, I am not. I can easily do 10 but 100? I had to split it up into jumps of 10 and was dying after.

At one point, I became extremely nauseous and thought I was going to lose my sausage, egg, and cheese, but like the hardcore champ I am, I swallowed it. Second breakfast?

After the workout was complete, I got into my car and cried. Not because I was upset with the workout but I was overtaken with emotions from my physical body. Now, I don't know if this is normal or not, but I cried from Augusta to Sabattus exit.

When you push your body to the limit you're emotions don't just chill, they feel it too and boy did I feel it. I feel so lucky and grateful that Beth believed in me and pushed me to do what I thought would've been impossible for me to do.

The workout was set for 20 minutes and I finished in 18:48. I can tell you with absolute certainty that if I continue on this CrossFit journey, I will lose weight and build muscle extremely fast.

Beth coached me well and when she saw I was struggling, she was motivational and helped me to get the next. That is exactly what anyone truly needs when they are trying something for the first time, support. She is educated and understands the brutal nature of what we're doing and she's sympathetic. She told me that it was tough for her at first too but like anything, you practice and you are able to impress yourself with the strength you build, body, mind and spirit.

CrossFit works, if you work. So if you are interested in being a badass, want quick results to build muscle and become a part of a very loving and closely knit family, head over to the Augusta, Plaza and test your endurance at The Shop at Crossfit.
