Adventures in Maine Radio: Running The Morning Show for The Very First Time
Today was a morning, unlike any other. I walked into the studio with a mix of excitement and nervousness. I put my headphones on, and braced myself because I was finally ready to take the reins of our Morning Show.
Today, I took charge of Matt & Lizzy in The Morning on Central Maine's #1 Hit Music Station, 92 Moose.
The undisputed board-master, but let's be real, my nerves were playing a full-blown symphony.
Usually, it's Matt James who runs the show, production wise, masterfully handling all the buttons and keeping us on track. But this time, it was my moment and it's something I have been foaming at the mouth to do. So to say I was eager, is a wicked understatement.
Matt was great, guiding me through the process and giving me the freedom to make mistakes. After all, success often follows a path of failures.
It came very natural to me. I took to it like a fish to water. I couldn't wait to share this experience with all of you because it's crucial for my readers and listeners to realize that everyone deserves a seat at the table.
At some points I felt like a human pressure cooker that was about to pop, stumbling over my words and forgetting what my name was, but most of all it was amazing.
As soon as the show wrapped up, I felt like a superhero who just discovered their superpower. My skin was buzzing almost like I had plugged myself into an electric socket. So rad.
I realized that even amidst the chaos, I can still rock the show like a boss.
As a woman in radio, I'm always hungry to push boundaries and absorb knowledge like a sponge. Let's keep embracing new challenges and learning from every opportunity that comes our way, ladies.
My thoughts on pushing yourself have always been the same: If you are nervous, that only means your body is ready to take a leap of faith and that can sometimes be scary.
This may not seen like a big deal, but it is. Broadcasting is traditionally a male-dominated field.
So for me to be able to simply walk to the other side of our desk and run the show board demonstrates that we can excel in any field, including traditionally male-dominated industries, like broadcasting.
If I didn't have the support of my bosses who always cheer all of us on, equally, I probably wouldn't even be here.
It was scary and I messed up plenty of times, but my goal is to empower other myself and through that I hope to empower other women and young girls/guys to speak up, participate, and ENGAGE.
My young son, Bentley came to see his Mom in action today and it meant a lot for me to show him that no matter what gender or age, you're dreams are attainable.
Doing that will foster an environment for all of us to be open to have more seats available at any table.
Thank you for listening and I encourage all of you to do something that makes you nervous, even if you feel like you're going to pee your pants. It's ok, keep going.
