Generosity is flowing in Maine right now! A local company has donated 40,000 pounds of protein to feed the hungry in our state.

An article by WGME reports Tyson Foods has given a sizable donation to the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition. This is the most substantial donation that Tyson has ever contributed.

Tyson Foods has been operating since 1935 according to their website. They say,

"Tyson Foods has grown over the years to find new ways to help feed the nation, with the belief that every family deserves to bring quality chicken to their table."

They are truly proving that they uphold their standards and stand behind their beliefs. Their need to pioneer for different ways to help provide for their customers as well as help to feed as many mouths as they can is commendable.

They are donating 40,000 pounds of protein to the food insecure in Maine, according to the article.

If you haven't heard what the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition is, they are doing important and vital work saying they are a,

"..statewide network of 85 organizations, a majority of which are led by people of color – representing diverse ethnic communities across our state. All coalition member organizations are working to create and support programs and policies that promote immigrant inclusion and integration. MIRC represents member organizations that include immigrant constituency groups, advocacy groups, direct service organizations and grassroots community organizations."

The article by WGME reports that the Executive Director Mufalo Chitam of the Maine Coalition is happy to receive the donation and at the perfect time, because,

"..we've been trying to increase the number of meals we've been providing"

“So it's been very hard to find chicken and it's also been very expensive for us, so this donation will help us at least, we could run through the end of the year without buying chicken."

The article goes on to report that the MIRC is able to give the community members around 280 meals per night.
