Maine Goats Are Hungry For Your Christmas Tree
As the holiday season winds down, you’re left staring at your once-magical Christmas tree, now looking a little less magical and a lot more droopy. Sure, the kids are begging to keep it, but unless you’re ready to embrace the “rotting forest fashion” vibe, it’s time to "let it go", like Elsa says.
Instead of tossing it to the curb or in your back yard, why not give it a second life as a meal for some Maine goats?
According to Central Maine, several Maine farms are asking locals to drop off their Christmas trees for their goats to enjoy. I know it's obvious, but please don't drop off the fake ones.
According to WBOC, "not only are festive firs a treat for the goats, but they also provide a nutritional boost from vitamins and minerals in the needles."
Same goes for our Maine pine trees, as per the post, it turns out, pine trees are not only safe but also a delightful snack for goats, packed with nutrients like vitamin C and a natural deworming agent.
In addition to the good nutrients, the prickly branches give the goats a source of fiber, keeping these recyclers healthy and happy.
At farms like Orchard Ridge Farm in Gorham, they think that accepting trees is a win win! The goats get a yummy meal and you can dispose of your tree in a healthy way for the environment.
Sunflower Farm Creamery is also welcoming your old Christmas trees and even posted an Instagram video of their excited goats eating the trees! How cute is this!
If you are going to feed our local goats, just make sure the tree is free of tinsel, ornaments, and any chemical sprays, only the natural ones are on the menu!
Not only is this practice good for the goats, but it’s also an eco-friendly alternative to discarding trees into landfills.
So, before you say goodbye to your Christmas tree, check your local farms and consider giving it one last purpose.
