The Reason This Mainer is Shaving His Head Hits Us In the Feels

A local Mainer, Bret Martel found himself faced with some struggles. I won't go into too much detail, but I will say that many are suffering with similar issues. He decided that once he got to the other side of the journey, he was going to give back.

In life, their is talking and their is action. Bret moved mountains to obtain his goal of creating a non-profit called, The Kindness Collective of Maine. This non-profit focuses on the most simple of things. It is free to share, it doesn't take any time to do, it is to spread kindness. Everything Bret has done to fund this project to benefit the community has come out of his and his families pockets.

This is a young non-profit that has kicked off with much success thus far. The Kindness Collective is almost a year old to this day. They purchase Amazon return pallets and deliver the goods to people who need them.  The pallets consist of, home goods, new clothes, toys, kitchen items, brand name clothes, beauty supplies, feminine products, hygiene products, anything they can get their hands on for these people struggling.
People say that the best person to help you is the one who has been in your shoes before. Bret has been that person who's struggled to get back to life and he knew that the support he received was invaluable. This is a story of redemption, a story of someone who was on the other-side of the coin and never forgot the help he received.

Dan Campbell, named 2015 "Auburn Man of The Year", was a coach and on council for years at Edward Little High School and St. Dominic High School.

Unfortunately, he was suffering from stage 4 cancer and Bret wanted to help. He went onto Facebook live and shaved his head in solidarity, He was able to raise $800 that night. Furthermore they helped to raise $1600 in total with a fundraising event for Dan. Dan's GoFundMe page has now raised over $60,000!

"He is an angel to so many. He has done more for people in the community then I could ever do. He is loved and cherished by so many, including myself. He was there for me through my addiction and was a big reason I got my life back. I owed him at least for what he did for me."

Bret hasn't done this on his own. He has had much help from his beautiful daughters, his partner, mom and aunt, who are on the board of directors.
