South Portland Police have started showing people’s faces and names on the PD's Facebook page of those who have been arrested for drunk driving. (OUI)

The police say publicizing the names on their page will hopefully be a deterrent to drunk driving, but some feel that it’s public shaming and could hurt the chances of those arrested get a fair trial in court.

The South Portland Police Department aren’t the only ones who are doing this, Westbrook PD also posts mugshots and names of those arrested for drunk driving on their Facebook page on a weekly basis.

South Portland Police also say they only leave the pictures up for a few days and then they take them down.

Where do you come out on this? Do think it’s a good idea? Do you want your town’s PD to do the same? Why or why not?
