A Turkey-Miracle Occurred At My Maine Home This Thanksgiving
Do you believe in miracles? Well, a miracle took place at my Lewiston home on Thanksgiving and I will fill you all in on everything!
The day had finally come for me to host my very first Thanksgiving dinner, which meant, I had to prepare the turkey.
I recently published an article about my hesitation on cooking a 15 pound bird for my family and the pressure of this bird taunting me from my fridge.
This bird was keeping me up at night.
But I had to jump in and get to know this bird, up close and personal. Thank god my Mom, Pam was their to guide and help me through this dilemma.
As it was my first thanksgiving dinner to prepare, I made sure to do a lot of research online and speak to other cooks for inspiration.
What I was most concerned about was actually touching the bird. My mom plopped the bird on the counter and said, "Okay Elizabeth, stuff it." I have to say, I felt like a gynecologist.
I made sure the turkey consented and then dove right in. As it turns out, I was a natural. Or better yet, an artist. I felt like I was creating a bond between me and my bird and at one point, while I was elbow deep into her crevasses, magic happened and I knew she wasn't going to burn. Don't ask me how, I just knew. While I was stuffing her, she was speaking directly to my soul from her tiny turkey soul.
I thanked her for her sacrifice and had a feeling that my nerves were unwarranted.
As I put her in the oven, I grabbed a bottle of wine, filled up a glass and waited. Mommy took a nap in my son, Bentleys room, because if you didn't know, I am exhausting to be around. Every hour I checked and basted the bird and after about 4 hours, she was done.
Being nervous to start something is normal. Pushing through that thing you fear is what makes you a better person. I will always make fun of myself but at the same time know that I am the one person I can count who will never give up or throw in the towel.
From my family to yours, I did it, thanks for the support and happy holidays.
