See The Moment Lizzy & Nelly Closed on Their Very First Home!
You read the title right. Little Lizzy from, Matt and Lizzy in The Morning on 92 Friggen Moose bought a friggen house.
Here's the thing, in the very beginning of our journey together, we did yearn to live the "gypsy life" and jump from place to place, experiencing the world, but then, BOOM, ADULTHOOD hit, and boy did it hit hard. Responsibilities of life flew in and redirected our brain functions towards thinking about putting down roots, literally.
We are happy to do so though. We are now Maine Rooted!
About 5 years ago my, then-fiance, Nelly, and I decided we didn't want to literally throw money out of the window each month while renting apartments.
So we decided to put our big girl panties on, save money, and work on our credit. In just two years, I was able to raise our credit scores exponentially.
It can be scary to hear the words, homeownership, escrow, liability, taxes, insurance, water and sewage, bills, but it's not that bad. Google can be your best friend ya'll.
While searching for a new home the most important thing to nail down is your support system, family, friends, your pet turtle because support is desperately needed. I personally, and emotionally would like to take a minute to thank my Mommy for always guiding me in the right direction and supporting me through all of my hardships. Love you Mom and I can't wait to dance with you in my kitchen. Nelly's parents, Joanne and Donald, are the most special people and have never given up on Janelle and her dreams, their support will never falter. We both thank you for standing by us and owe you more than you'll ever know.
As well as the professional people you surround yourself with. We were able to obtain the most astonishing realtor, Linda Davis of Better Homes and Gardens, and a fantastic contractor, Kelly.
I did become fearful because the housing market was gross for buyers, but we didn't let that deter us and because we continued to live as though we had already found our dream home, it came true. She came to us, old, dirty, smelly, and beautifully perfect all at once.
When they say, whoever "they" are that when you walk in your new home, you "just know", we not only "just knew" we smelt our future in that house. We also smelt the previous owners past and it wasn't amazing but we ignored that and I lit a pumpkin candle.
She's a 1933 Pre-WWII Cape with a wrap-around porch and 3 season porch. The house is very "porchy" guys.
We are happy to embark on this adventure together and to grow our little family of three in this new house all of our own.
It will also be nice to not have a landlord walk into our home in the middle of the night, making Nelly jump out of bed like a spider monkey, but that'll be for another article.
Stay tuned and I'll take you along this crazy, absurd, and wonderful new homeownership ride with us. Wish us luck and send bandaids, please.
